Overland to Pakistan from Khunjerab Pass Kashgar By Karakoram Highway:
Situated in the western part of China, there is a 1032 kilometres cross border highway between Xinjiang and Kashi to Pakistan. It is rated as "one of the most beautiful and dangerous highways in the world".Karakoram Highway(KKH), also known as China Pakistan Friendship Highway, is a 1300 kilometres national highway which extends from the Punjab province of Pakistan to the Khunjerab Pass in Gilgit Pakistan, where it crosses into China and becomes China National Highway 314. The highway connects the Pakistan provinces of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan with China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The highway is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world. Passing through the Karakoram mountain, due to its high elevation and the difficult conditions in which it was constructed, it is often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World.
Karakoram Mountain:
The Karakoram Mountains are one of the most awesome mountain landscapes on the earth. it stretches thousands of kilometers and runs from northwest to Southeast with an average elevation of more than 6000 meters. Therefore, it has become the focus of world geologists, mountaineers and tourists. In addition to the Karakunlun Mountains, the highway also passes through the Hindu Kush Mountains, the Pamir Plateau, and the Himalayas. Along the way stand the world's second highest peak, Qiaogori (8611 meters) and more than 100 peaks over 7000 meters, which belong to the highly seismic region.
Kalakuli Lake:
Kalakuli lake is situated at the foot of the Muztag Iceberg in the eastern Pamir Plateau, and it is one of the top 10 largest meteorite pools in the world and an attractive destination for Xinjiang tourism, the lake is famous for its fanciful landscape and clear waters.
Kalakuli Lake is a rare plateau lake in the world, the lake is surrounded by glaciers and snow bergs, especially Gongger, Gongger Jiubie Peak and Muztag Peak, which add magical and beautiful colours to the lake. In the calm and tranquil days, you will see the bright silver peaks and green grasslands which is quite worth to visit.
Muztagh Peak:
Muztagh Peak is located on the Pamirs, it is one of the peaks of Kunlun Mountains Ranges, 7719 metres above the sea level. the depth of the ice and snow accumulated on the summit is about 100-200 metres. And there are 16 glacier tongues that go down from the peak, and the longest one, 21 kilometres long, lies on the eastern slope, the elevation of the glacier tongues here is 5300 metres. The glaciers tongues on the western slope, 20 kilometers long have their end of the tongues between 4.000 to 4500 metres. The snowline on the northern slope is 5500 metres long and that on the southern 5800 metres.
Khunjerab pass:
Khunjerab pass was a significant pass on the ancient silk road, it was the only inbound and outbound from China to Pakistan, and it is also an essential gateway to the South Asian Subcontinent and even Europe.
Hunza Valley:
Hunza Valley is situated in the extreme northern part of Pakistan, boarding with Afghanistan and China. In 1933, the British writer James Hilton came to the Hansa Valley in Pakistan. After learning the local customs, he wrote the world famous ‘Lost Horizon’. In his book, he Praised Hunza as "Shangri-La" and the five longevity places in the world.
