Itinerary

Day 1Kuitun Arrival

Welcome to Kuitun! If you arrive early, take some time to explore the Dushanzi Museum, Mud Volcano, and the stunning Dushanzi Grand Canyon. These spots are perfect for warming up and getting a taste of the adventure ahead. Once the group is all together, we'll enjoy a welcome dinner and a briefing to prepare you for the exciting biking ahead.  

Getting Here: You can reach Kuitun by airport shuttle or train. If you need a pick-up service, just let us know in advance, and we'll make sure you're taken care of.

Day 2Scenic Ride to Wulansadeke

The magical journey begins with a hearty breakfast. After that, we'll kick off our cycling adventure from the starting point of the Duku Highway. Don't forget to snap some photos here—it's the beginning of an unforgettable journey! The first 40 km to Kazi is a gentle uphill ride, perfect for easing into the rhythm. From Kazi, we'll head into the mountains, passing by the iconic "Guardian of Tianshan" stone, the Qingshui River Bridge, and the dramatic Tiger's Mouth. Lunch will be in Maoliugou, and by the end of the day, we'll arrive at Wulansadeke (K639), where we'll spend the night.  

Pro Tip: Today's ride is a mix of gentle climbs and stunning scenery—perfect for getting into the groove of the trip.

Day 3High-Altitude Biking Thrills

Ready for the challenge? Today's ride is a bit more challenging, with a steady uphill climb, but the rewards are worth it! We'll pass by the breathtaking waterfalls and winding roads, before reaching the Snow Protection Corridor and the Hashilegen Tunnel at 3,400 meters. The tunnel is unlit, so make sure your bike lights are ready! After the tunnel, it's a thrilling 24 km downhill ride into the Ili region, ending at the Qiaoerma service area. From there, we'll cycle through the picturesque "Hundred Miles Gallery" to our accommodation for the night.  

Don't Miss: The Qiaoerma Martyrs' Cemetery, where you'll hear the inspiring story of Chen Jungui, a soldier who survived a snowstorm during the construction of the Duku Highway and has been guarding the cemetery ever since.  

Pro Tip: Bring warm clothing—today's ride takes us to high altitudes, and the weather can be chilly.

Day 4Nalati Biking Adventure Awaits

Today's adventure begins with a fun twist—we'll dress up in local ethnic costumes and take photos on the lush grasslands! Afterward, we'll cycle across the Kashi River Bridge and visit the Qiaoerma Martyrs' Cemetery. The ride continues along the Alestan River, with a challenging 9 km climb to the Yuximolegai Tunnel at 3,200 meters. After the tunnel, it's all downhill, with sweeping views of the Nalati Grasslands. We'll pass the Nalati service area (great for a quick rest) before arriving in Nalati Town for the night.  

Pro Tip: The Yuximolegai Tunnel is nearly 2 km long and unlit, so make sure your bike lights are ready. Keep warm clothing handy—it can get chilly at high altitudes.

Day 5Riding Through Paradise

Let's step into paradise today. After breakfast, we'll ride through the Zero Kilometer checkpoint and follow the Gongnaisi River upstream. The scenery today is nothing short of spectacular—rolling green mountains as far as the eye can see. We'll stop for lunch in the heart of the Tianshan Mountains, with the highest point of the day at La'erdun Pass (2,600 meters). From there, we'll descend into Bayinbuluke Town, where the vast Bayinbuluke Grassland awaits. Spend the afternoon exploring this stunning landscape before settling in for the night.  

Pro Tip: The grassland is at a high altitude, so bring mosquito repellent, sunscreen, and warm clothing. The weather can change quickly, and nights can be chilly.

Day 6Grasslands to Canyons

When you wake up from your dream, a roller coaster ride awaits you. Today's ride is a mix of grassland and mountain scenery. We'll start with a 60 km ride along the grassland road, followed by a 30 km climb to the Tielimaiti Tunnel at 3,200 meters. After the tunnel, get ready for an exhilarating 11 km downhill with plenty of hairpin turns—hold on tight! We'll pass the stunning Dragon Pools, with their crystal-clear waters, before descending into the Kurgan Canyon. Our final stop for the day is the Kuqa Coal Mine, where we'll spend the night.  

Pro Tip: Some tunnels today are unlit, so make sure your bike lights are ready. Keep warm clothing accessible—the weather can change quickly in the mountains.

Day 7Kuqa Departure

On our final day of cycling, we'll ride 30 km to the Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon, a jaw-dropping natural wonder. After exploring the canyon, we'll continue our journey, passing through the Kang Village area, where you'll see the dramatic contrast of desert landscapes. The ride ends at the Duku Highway Endpoint Monument, where you can take photos to commemorate your incredible journey. From there, we'll head into Kuqa City for a well-deserved celebratory dinner, marking the end of your unforgettable seven-day biking adventure along the Duku Highway. Pro Tip: The desert section can get very hot in summer, so make sure to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun.

Trip Notes

  • Preparation and Physical Fitness  

Even if you don't ride frequently or have limited physical stamina, you can still participate in our cycling tour. Our support vehicle follows the group throughout the journey, carrying all your luggage so you can ride light. Professional guides will accompany you, and rest stops will be arranged according to your energy levels. During breaks, you'll have access to food, water, seasonal fruits, and energy supplements. If you feel tired, you can always communicate with the guide and take a break in the support vehicle. Once rested, you can continue riding if you wish.  

  • Weather Conditions  

In case of rain, strong winds, or other severe weather conditions, our support vehicle will promptly assist in relocating to avoid the bad weather. If the weather improves, you can resume cycling. For light rain, we provide disposable raincoats if you prefer to continue riding.  

  • On-the-Road Supplies  

During the ride, we will arrange energy snacks, bananas, coffee, and hot drinks at each rest stop to ensure you maintain your energy levels, especially during long climbs.  

  • Mobile Signal  

In remote or mountainous areas, mobile signals may be weak or intermittent. Please make sure to handle any important matters before starting the ride.  

  • Transportation, Accommodation, and Meals  

Our transportation includes vehicles like the Jiangling Transit or shuttle vans, depending on your needs. Breakfast is usually provided at the hotel, while lunch is arranged at suitable locations along the route, often featuring local dishes like noodles or rice. Dinner is customized to your preferences, allowing you to enjoy Xinjiang's local cuisine. Accommodations are selected to ensure comfort after a day of riding.  

  • Bicycle Rental and Equipment  

If you rent a bicycle from us, we provide helmets and offer a range of bikes, including Giant mountain bikes, flat-bar road bikes, and electric-assist bikes. Choose according to your preference and physical condition. Electric-assist bikes are recommended for those who prefer a less strenuous ride.  

  • Essential Items for Desert Road Cycling  

Pack light but essential items such as thermal clothing, casual wear, quick-drying undergarments, cycling gear, gloves, sunglasses, and appropriate footwear. Don't forget sunscreen, a water bottle, chargers, power banks, and most importantly, your ID card for entrance tickets and hotel check-ins.  

  • Bringing Your Own Bicycle  

You are welcome to bring your own bicycle. Please ship it to our address ten days in advance, and our technicians will assemble it for you. If you prefer to assemble it yourself, please inform us beforehand.  

  • Documentation of the Journey  

We will capture your cycling experience through photos, videos, and drone footage, which will be shared with you as memories of your journey.  

  • Continuous Support

Our support vehicle is always nearby, not just occasionally. It is equipped with full bicycle repair tools, spare parts, and communication devices. Depending on the group size, multiple vehicles may be used to ensure everyone's needs are met. Ride with ease, enjoy the scenery, and leave the logistics to us for a memorable cycling experience.
