Xinjiang Weather in November

Kashgar Old Town

Karakul Lake

Karakul Lake, At an altitude of 3,600 m. it is the highest lake of the Pamir plateau, near the junction of the Pamir, Tianshan and Kunlun Mountain ranges. Surrounded by mountains which remain snow-covered throughout the year, the three highest peaks visible from the lake are the Muztag Ata (7546m), Kongur Tagh (7,649m) and Kongur Tube (7,530 m). The lake is popular among travelers for its beautiful scenery and the clarity of its reflection in the water, whose colour ranges from a dark green to azure and light blue. Karakul lake is one of the well-known scenery in Tashkurgan county, Kashgar.

Lake Karakul's water changes its colour depending on the weather. On a clear day, the blue sky lets the lake appear blue and azure. And a cloudy day makes the water look dark because of the reflection. Besides, different depths of the lake contribute to the different colours.

Pamir Plateau

The Pamir Plateau, situated at elevations ranging from 3200 to 4500 meters, is located at the southwestern edge of Xinjiang, where the Tianshan Mountains and the Kunlun Mountains converge. This high-altitude plateau features a wide distribution of glaciers, including renowned ones like Kokoxili, Yangbulak, and Kelayaykela, located near the towering peaks of Gongul Mountain and Muztagata. Tarim River

The Tarim River, China's longest inland river, is formed by the convergence of the Yarkand River, Khotan River, Aksu River, and several other tributaries. Spanning a total length of 2179 kilometers, this majestic river meanders through the northern region of the Tarim Basin before emptying into the vast expanse of the Lop Desert. Within its drainage area, expansive natural desert poplar forests have been diligently preserved, creating a unique ecosystem.
