Xuanzang, a Tang Dynasty monk, journeyed from Chang'an to India, overcoming deserts and mountains to bring back Buddhist scriptures. His Great Tang Records on the Western Regions documented over 100 countries, offering invaluable insights into ancient Central Asia and India, and inspired Journey to the West.
The trek starts in Kashgar, passing Tashkurgan, Panlong Ancient Road, ending in Yingjisha. Highlights include White Sand Lake, Karakul Lake, and Muztagh Ata Peak, offering stunning high-altitude scenery.

Welcome to Kashgar, the cultural heart of Xinjiang and a vibrant oasis at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road. Upon arrival, we will arrange your check-in at the hotel, check your equipment, and prepare a sumptuous welcome dinner for you. The rest of the day is yours to walk around the ancient city of Kashgar, relax and prepare for the incredible trekking adventure ahead.
The excitement begins on first day's trekking. You'll travel by vehicle to Tashkurgan County, with stops at the breathtaking White Sand Lake, the serene Karakul Lake, and the majestic Muztagh Ata Peak. Along the way, you'll explore the Wakhan Corridor, Princess Castle, and the Khunjerab Pass. Standing on the Princess Castle, you'll feel as though you can hear the whispers of history from a thousand years ago. In Tashkurgan, you'll visit the ancient Stone City, a testament to the region's storied past as a frontier fortress. In the evening, try the Tajik cuisine and enjoy traditional music and dance performances.
The excitement continues today. After breakfast, you'll drive to the Panlong Ancient Road, passing the picturesque Xiabandi Reservoir, and arrive at Xindie Village. From here, you'll embark on a 12-kilometer trek through the stunning Qiqilik Valley, camping overnight at an altitude of 3,900 meters. Along the way, you'll capture the dramatic highland scenery of the winding Panlong Ancient Road and admire the pristine landscapes of the valley. In the evening, gather around a campfire, share stories, and marvel at the star-filled sky.
Today's high-altitude trek takes you 4 kilometers to the Qiqilik Jilga Platform at 4,400 meters, where you'll enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped mountains and expansive grasslands. From there, you'll descend to Tar Bas at 3,600 meters, covering a total of 22 kilometers. As you trek, imagine the legendary journey of Xuanzang through this breathtaking terrain. Keep an eye out for high-altitude flora and fauna. In the evening, capture the beauty of the starry sky and soak in the serene atmosphere of the plateau.
Let's slow down today. You'll trek 16 kilometers to Tuoyibulong Village, situated at 2,900 meters, where you'll camp for the night. Take the opportunity to explore the village and learn about the traditional way of life and cultural practices of the Tajik people. Engage with the friendly locals, participate in folk activities, and enjoy authentic Tajik dishes, experiencing their warm hospitality firsthand.
A new challenge awaits you. Today's 15-kilometer trek will take you across the 3,950-meter Terek Pass to reach Maydan at 3,170 meters, where you'll camp overnight. At the Terek Pass, you'll be rewarded with majestic highland views and a sense of accomplishment. Along the way, admire the beauty of high-altitude lakes and glaciers. In the evening, gather around the campfire to share stories and enjoy the tranquility of the plateau night.
Today's trekking tends to be romantic. Your trek covers 10 kilometers, crossing the 3,750-meter Kashkasu Pass. Afterward, you'll travel by vehicle along the Tashkurgan-Taxkorgan Ancient Road to Tar Township. If you're visiting in late March or early April, you'll witness the stunning apricot and peach blossoms that blanket southern Xinjiang in spring. At the Kashkasu Pass, take time to photograph the breathtaking landscapes and celebrate your achievement. Upon arrival in Tar Township, explore local villages and immerse yourself in the vibrant spring atmosphere.
On your final day, you'll return to Kashgar by vehicle, stopping at Kukosiluk Village to learn about local customs and traditions. Arrive in Kashgar, check into your hotel and take a moment to reflect on the rich history and culture you've experienced during your trekking. Enjoy some free time to shop for local specialties and souvenirs, marking the end of your unforgettable Xuanzang Trail adventure.

Generally speaking End March—End Oct are the best time to visit Xinjiang. From mid April to mid of August is the best time to explore the vast grassland in Yili River valley which borders with Kazakhstan.Mid may to Mid Oct is the best time to explore north Xinjiang of Kanas Nature park. End March to Mid June, Sept and Oct are the perfect season to South Xinjiang for its pleasant weather and sweet fruits. No need to worry about high altitude along the Xinjiang.
