As you ascend, the air grows crisper. The grasslands roll in gentle waves, mostly flat, under a sky painted with blue and white clouds. Morning brings the route's most spectacular floral display to you. Altai Golden lotuses sway across emerald grasslands. By late May, the grasslands explode into a golden ocean of Altai golden lotuses —an unmatched horseback flower-viewing experience in the Ili River Valley.
