Suitable for all levels, the route combines moderate challenges and varied terrains, offering adventure, culture, and stunning scenery for every rider.
Your adventure starts with a warm welcome! Enjoy complimentary airport transfers from Altay Xuedu Airport or Urumqi Diwopu International Airport. If arriving in Urumqi, please land before 4 PM, as the drive to Altay Fuyun County takes about 5 hours. After settling into the hotel, you'll join a welcome dinner to meet your group, and the tour leader will brief you on the itinerary and precautions. The rest of the day is for you to rest up for an amazing horseback riding tour ahead.
After a good night's rest, your horseback riding tour officially begins! In the morning, you'll depart from the hotel and head to the starting point for your ride. Once there, you'll be matched with your horse for the journey. Today's theme is the breathtaking Irtysh River Valley, one of the most scenic valley crossings you'll ever experience. The Irtysh River is unique—it's the only river in China that flows westward, and its presence has shaped the diverse and stunning landscapes of the Altay region. As you ride through lush vegetation and cool, refreshing air, you'll feel completely immersed in nature's beauty.
Get ready for a dramatic change of scenery! Today's theme is "Vast Desert and Solitary Smoke", inspired by the famous line from ancient Chinese poetry: "In the vast desert, a lone plume of smoke rises straight; by the long river, the setting sun hangs round." After the lush river valley of the previous day, you'll find yourself riding through endless Gobi deserts and sand dunes. This is the magic of Altay—a land of contrasts and surprises. The route is designed to leave you in awe, with sweeping views and a sense of grandeur that will stay with you long after the ride is over. Feel the wild mountain winds and let your spirit roam free in this untamed landscape.
Different from the day before. Today, you'll discover the mystery of Koktokay's "sea". While many say Koktokay has no sea, you'll see seabirds and hear the sea breeze, making it feel like you're by the ocean. If you're lucky, you might even experience a snowfall, which transforms the landscape into a winter wonderland. Last year, we were treated to this magical sight, and it was absolutely unforgettable. In addition to the "sea", you'll also visit the vast sunflower fields described in Li Juan's Distant Sunflower Fields. Take a moment to pick a ripe sunflower, enjoy its seeds, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this idyllic setting.
On your final day of riding, the focus shifts from natural beauty to cultural exploration. Today's theme is "Searching for Koktokay's Shepherd". While the first three days showcased the stunning landscapes of Altay, today is all about connecting with the local Kazakh culture and their traditional nomadic way of life. You'll ride to Rainbow Bulak, a place immortalized in Li Juan's My Altay. As you journey through this picturesque landscape, you'll feel as though you're stepping into the pages of her book. The day will be accompanied by music, adding a poetic touch to your search for the legendary "Shepherd of Koktokay".
After a hearty breakfast, bid farewell to Altay's enchanting landscapes. We'll transfer you to Altay Xuedu Airport or Urumqi Diwopu International Airport for your departure. Carry with you unforgettable memories of stunning scenery, cultural discoveries, and new friendships. Bon voyage, and until we meet again!
